MATTHEWS -- Funeral service for Leila B. Evans of Matthews will be held at 11 a.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Revs. Don Slaten and DeWayne Coleman will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Evans, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1992, at her home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1905, in Jackson, Tenn., daughter of Calvin Jasper and Elberta Farmer Hicks. She and Elmer Edwin Evans were married Aug. 17, 1928. He died Sept. 5, 1971.
Evans was a third grade teacher at Canalou 29 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church at Canalou.
Survivors include a son, Grady Evans of Worthington, Ohio; a daughter, Jane Hammock of Matthews; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three nieces reared in her home, Jean McCann of Belleville, Ill., Leila Jones of St. Louis, and Sherri Watson of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
