LeeRoy Albert Hess, 60, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at his home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1946, at Chaffee, Mo., son of Frank Louis and Martha Mary Peters Hess. He and Barbara Lucille Hagan were married Sept. 23, 1967, in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Hess graduated from Kelly High School at Benton, Mo.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Hess was in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 6, 1966, to May 9, 1969.
Mr. Hess was an automotive mechanic for Cape Volkswagen and Wieser Motor Co., parts salesman for Auto Tire and Parts, durable medical equipment technician at Broadway Medical, and a machinist at Barks Equipment and Supplies in Cape Girardeau.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 639, and a life member of VFW Post 3838.
He enjoyed ATV riding, photography, classic cars, and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Darrell Hess and wife Cris of Cape Girardeau, Craig Hess of Oran, Mo.; two brothers, Randal and Carl Hess of High Ridge, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Ernst of St. Louis, Cynthia Burnett of Chaffee; four grandchildren, Taylor, Sabrina, Zachary and Nicholas Hess.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Franklin Hess.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3838.
