Mr. Leeman Earl Gerecke, age 69, passed away Monday, July 26, 1999 on the family farm at Gordonville. Mr. Gerecke was born in Gordonville on March 29, 1930, the son of Albert and Frieda Graden Gerecke. On June 1, 1952 he married Elsie Marie Borgfield in Jackson. Loving survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elsie Marie Gerecke of Gordonville; three sons, David Gerecke of Salem, Ore., Gary Gerecke of Cape Girardeau and Bruce Gerecke of Gordonville; two daughters, Bernice Koerber and Marilyn R. Schott, both of Gordonville; three sisters, Evelyn Peetz and Ellouise Siebert, both of Jackson and Shirley Campbell of Knoxville, Tenn.; sixteen grandchildren and two great great-granddaughters. He was preceded by his parents; one brother and one granddaughter.
Mr. Gerecke was a lifelong cattle farmer and as such, was actively involved in the Cape Girardeau Cattleman's Association and the Missouri Angus Cattle Association. He also participated as an cattle exhibitor at the SEMO District Fair, served as a SEMO Fair Board Member for 36 years and received the Life-Time Achievement Award from the SEMO Fair Association. Mr. Gerecke was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville, and remained a faithful, serving member until his death. He had served the church as an Elder Trustee, Past Church Vice President, Pas Sunday School Treasurer and Former Men's Club Member.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 28 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo. Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. Rev. Wayne Schwiesow will officiate. Friends should call Thursday at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m.
