Lee Roy Sykes, 85, 1013 S. Kingshighway, died Tuesday, June 23, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 28, 1907, in Abbeville, Miss., son of Charles C. and Ora Bennett Sykes. He and Louise Paul were married Sept. 2, 1933, in Jonesboro, Ill.

Sykes had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1928. In 1926 he went to work on the river. He later was a pilot with various companies, 16 of which were with Marquette Cement Towing. Since leaving the river he had been caretaker for the Jordan and Sigmund Estate. He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, James Sykes of Gilbertown, Ala.; a sister, Frankie Curtner of Staunton, Calif.; a foster daughter, Judith Farris Piazzi of New York, N.Y., and a foster grandson.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. The Revs. Cy Smith and Harold Thompson will officiate, with burial in Lorimier Cemetery.
