JACKSON, Mo. -- William Marion "Lee" Proffer, age 96, died Friday, Nov. 17, at Whitewater, Mo. He was born Jan. 22, 1904, in Crump, Mo., the son of Harvey Lee Proffer and Marzilla Fulbright. Lee worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired from International Shoe in Cape Girardeau in 1966. He was an active member of the Whitewater United Methodist Church and Methodist Men's Club...

JACKSON, Mo. -- William Marion "Lee" Proffer, age 96, died Friday, Nov. 17, at Whitewater, Mo. He was born Jan. 22, 1904, in Crump, Mo., the son of Harvey Lee Proffer and Marzilla Fulbright. Lee worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired from International Shoe in Cape Girardeau in 1966. He was an active member of the Whitewater United Methodist Church and Methodist Men's Club.

Lee married Desdia Viola Nance on Feb. 4, 1928. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1985. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Lee is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mildred Lee and Gary Reynolds of Whitewater, Mo.; two grandchildren, Scott Reynolds and wife, Pam, of Arnold, Mo., and Carla McCrea and husband, J.R., of Helen, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Crystal Leigh Williams of Columbia and Kyle Jeffrey and Garret Donald Lee Reynolds of Arnold, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews including Arthur Ray Proffer of Cape Girardeau, whom Lee and Desdia helped raise.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo., Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral chapel Monday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Tom Zych officiating. Burial will be in Proffer Cemetery at Crump, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whitewater Methodist Church.
