FARMINGTON -- Lee Hails, 76, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Camelot Nursing Home in Farmington.
He was born Sept. 26, 1923, at Esther, son of Albert and Katheryn Stacey Hails.
Hails taught and coached at Farmington, leading the Farmington Knights football team to a 1949 state championship, and coached a champion basketball team.
He was a manager with Crown Finance, past member of Missouri State Consumer Finance Board, was a lobbyist for Missouri Small Loan Reform, executive vice president of Capaha Loan and Finance, opened and managed Plaza Tire in 1979 at Park Hills, and was executive vice president of Leadco Credit Union.
Hails was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills, and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served with the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Marilynn Bayless Hails; a son, Keith Hails and wife Jean of Drexel; two daughters, Jo Duff and husband Ron of Cape Girardeau, Stacey Mayberry of Jackson; five grandchildren, Chris Brennecke, Cale Prokopf, Adam Hails, Jennifer Garner, Jackie Westbrook; and three great-grandchildren, Cori and Macie Brennecke and Olivia Westbrook.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lee; his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
There will be no visitation. He willed his body to Washington University.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills.
A memorial Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Park Hills, with the Rev. Jim Francis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, or the Food Pantry at Immaculate Conception Church in Park Hills.
