Leabert L. Fields, 65, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at his home.

He was born March 31, 1942, in Howes Mill, Mo., son of the late Arthur and Aimee Fields. He and Ann Martin were married July 5, 1970.

Leabert was a 1961 graduate of the former Elvins High School. He was a house painter in St. Louis until moving to Scott City in 1964, where he worked for Superior Electric until 1982. Leabert then worked for UPS for 23 years as a pre-loader, where he was given an award for his service and dedication in 2004.

He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ of Jackson since 2000. One of his favorite pastimes was spending quality time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include a daughter, Christina (Laird) Abbott of Stafford, Va.; two grandchildren, Ethan Fields and Alexander Hugh of Stafford; three sisters, Daphean (Donald) Tiefenauer of Park Hills, Mo., Karen Fields and Vicki Bailey of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Tripplett, and his stepfather, Bill Bailey.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Southeast Hospice, or donor's choice.
