Lawrence Yates

MILLER CITY, Ill. -- Lawrence Vern Yates, 68, of Miller City passed away at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home.

Lawrence was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Cairo, Ill., son of Lawrence Dickerson and Fleecy Bauer Yates.

Mr. Yates was a retired maintenance employee with the Alexander County Highway Department, a former bartender and a member of the Anna, Ill., Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his mother, Fleecy Yates of Miller City; sister, Gwendolyn (Thomas) Arthur of Arvada, Colo.; uncle, Jack (Margaret) Bauer of Cairo; several nieces and nephews, including Kim Bankson and Scott Quesenberry.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Judy Quesenberry.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Verlee Eaker officiating.

Burial will follow in Baumgard Cemetery at Miller City.
