Lawrence Ray Ward Jr., 89, of Scott City died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 10, 1931, in Charleston, Missouri, to Lawrence Ray and Lucille Starnes Ward. He married Patsy Ann Mathis on Jan. 19, 1952. She preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2018...

Lawrence Ray Ward Jr., 89, of Scott City died Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 10, 1931, in Charleston, Missouri, to Lawrence Ray and Lucille Starnes Ward.

He married Patsy Ann Mathis on Jan. 19, 1952. She preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2018.

Lawrence was a heavy equipment operator for West Lake Quarry. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott Cit,y where he was an ordained deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Europe during the Korean War.

He loved his family, music and breakfast at Burger King with his friends. His warm personality will be missed by all.

Lawrence is survived by a son, Lynn (Patty) Ward of Scott City; a daughter, Diane (Tom) Fisher of O'Fallon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Lucas, Gretchen, Tyler, Seth, Kristen, Kaitlin and Michael; eight great-grandchildren, Bennett, Brynlee, Brooklyn, Dexter, Aubrey, Maggie, Lucy and Palmer; three sisters, Mildred Patton of Livonia, Michigan; Nadine Rudkin of Gideon, Missouri; and Marj Brewsaugh of Odenton, Maryland.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Glenn Ward; and two brothers.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, with the Rev. Jeremy Sells officiating.

Masks are required at the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church of Scott City.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
