Lawanna J. Montgomery, 81, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away after an extended illness at the Exceptional Living Center in Brazil, Indiana. Lawanna J. Montgomery, 81, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away after an extended illness at the Exceptional Living Center in Brazil, Indiana.

Lawanna was born Sept. 7, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Cletus and Neva Wiley Poe. She married Montie Montgomery on Sept. 6, 1956, in Hernando, Mississippi. Together, they had one daughter, Sandra Frankville, and made their home in Rock Island, Illinois.

Lawanna worked as a nurse's aide at St. Anthony's Hospital and as a bookkeeper in her later years. After retiring, Lawanna and Montie moved back to Cape Girardeau, where they lived until his passing in 2005. Following his death, Lawanna moved to Indiana to be closer to their daughter and her family. In her free time, Lawanna enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her daughter and her two grandsons, Alex and Austin.

Lawanna is survived by her daughter, Sandra Frankville and husband Dr. Richard Frankville; grandsons Alex Frankville of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Austin Frankville (Samantha) of Carmel, Indiana; brothers Ronald "Duke" Poe (Judy) of Cape Girardeau and David Poe (Judy) of Destin, Florida; and nieces and nephews Ronnie Poe (Rhonda), Robyn Taylor (Bruce), Chris Poe and Angel Poe.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 1001 N. Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
