LaWanna Louise Eifert, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born May 14, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Charles J. and Thelma Henson Bertrand Sr. She graduated from Illmo-Fornfelt High School. She and Robert F. Steck were married in 1949 in Cape Girardeau; he died in 1966. She later married A.R. Eifert in July of 1969 in Anahuac, Texas.
LaWanna had worked in the cafeteria at Notre Dame Regional High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
LaWanna was a lady who loved her family deeply. She was the caretaker, pie maker and guidance counselor of her family. In summary, she would give her last shirt off of her back if you needed it. Look up and I'm sure you will feel her beautiful smile and warmth that she gave so often. LaWanna will truly be missed dearly. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Robert Charles (Judy) Steck of Jackson; daughters, Ann Marie (Kyle) Hahn of Marble Hill, Missouri, Katrina Louise (Wayne) Calhoun of Altenburg, Missouri, Cindy (Joel) Neely of Oak Ridge and LaWanna (Tom) Heise of Altenburg; a brother, Charles J. (Lisa) Bertrand of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Patricia Gross and Charlene Vandeven, both of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Shane (Megan) Steck, Joshua David and Kyla Hahn, Corey and Jessica Calhoun, Rebecca Rollet, Alex Neely, Tressa Bauman and Erin Crader; and great-grandchildren, Brydan, Ryanna and Chrislyn Steck, Bradyn Hahn and Merci Ann Cox, Deacon and Grayson Calhoun, Ruby Mae Rollet, Wyatt and Levi Crader and Elyse and McKenna Bauman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, David Edward Steck.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with parish prayers at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Kelly officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
