LaWanda Elizabeth Macke, 78, of Jackson passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of George Henry and Ella Mae Wrenn Fisher. She and Elmer E. Macke were married May 25, 1956. He passed away March 30, 2002.

LaWanda was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a typesetter at the Southeast Missourian for several years, and was a care provider with VNA Home Health for 22 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of the Eagles Club in Cape Girardeau. She enjoyed quilting, outdoor activities, shopping and, especially, dancing.

Loving survivors include five daughters, Pattie Ann (Wayne) Mayberry of Jonesboro, Ill., Pamela (David) Morgan of Cape Girardeau, Phyllis Ruesler (fiance Hubert Sharpe) of LaBelle, Mo., Paula (Brad) Thompson of Fruitland and Caroline Macke-Hoxworth of Jackson; three sons, Jon Macke of Millersville, Michael (Robin) Macke of Jackson and Joe (Jane) Macke of Oak Ridge; seven grandsons; six granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Scott of Sebring, Fla.; a brother, Harold "Bub" Fisher of Sebring; a sister-in-law, Mary Fisher of Marble Hill, Mo.; and a special friend and companion, Lynn Alley of Jackson.

In addition to her husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation, designated to the diabetes department.
