ROGERSVILLE — Irene Laverne Spencer, affectionately known as “Laverne” to her friends and family, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at the age of 98 in Rogersville.
Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Arkansas, Laverne lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work and her community.
For 12 years, Laverne was a respected supervisor at Thorngate Industries in Chaffee, where she was known for her strong leadership and her ability to inspire those around her.
At home, she was a wonderful homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming environment that reflected her loving nature. Her care and attention to her family’s needs were evident in every aspect of her home life.
Laverne’s passions extended beyond her professional and family life. She was an avid gardener, taking joy in the beauty and tranquility of her garden. Her spirit of volunteerism and helping others was a testament to her generous and giving nature. Laverne’s faith was a central part of who she was, and she was a vital member of her church family at Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau. Her commitment to her faith and church community was unwavering, and she served with a grace and devotion that inspired all who knew her.
Her legacy continues through her sons, Ted Spencer and his wife, Sherry, and Tim Spencer and his wife, Jeannine. Laverne was a cherished grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter and a proud great-grandmother to five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Laverne was predeceased by her beloved husband, J.T. Spencer, and her daughter, Vicki Davenport.
Her love and guidance were the cornerstones of her family, and her memory will be treasured in their hearts forever.
