PERRYVILLE -- Funeral Mass for Lavern O. Smith of Perryville will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Lause will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery at Lemay.

Young and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Smith, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City.

He was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Cullman, Ala., son of Herman and Bee Blackwood Smith. He and Evelyn R. Papineau were married Sept. 15, 1956.

Smith was a truck driver at Gilster-Mary Lee. He was a member of St. Vincent's Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Timothy, Donald and Keith Smith of Perryville; and a daughter, Michelle Smith of Perryville.

Also surviving are five sisters, Dovey Wernser and Kathy Williams of Cullman, Shelby Short of Cleveland, Ohio, Shirly Killgo of Arley, Ala., Loretta Garrett of Baylington, Ala.; three brothers, Etzoldt Smith of Oshebow, Fla., Leburn Smith of Cullman, Telarow Smith of Burmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and a brother.
