LaVern J. Bangert, 79, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Jackson, daughter of Charles and Erna Lowes Meyer. She and Wilbur "Wib" Bangert were married July 5, 1946, in Osceola, Ark. He passed away Oct. 30, 1998...

LaVern J. Bangert, 79, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Jackson, daughter of Charles and Erna Lowes Meyer. She and Wilbur "Wib" Bangert were married July 5, 1946, in Osceola, Ark. He passed away Oct. 30, 1998.

LaVern worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson. She was co-owner and bookkeeper for the former Bangert Auto Body Service Center in Jackson from 1956 to 1972. She became co-owner of Bangert Tractor Sales in 1972.

She was an avid bowler and member of Bangert Tractor Bowling Team, member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering at Missouri Veterans Home. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and charter member of Kimbeland Golf Club.

Loving survivors include a son, Rick Bangert of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ed Luehrs of Jackson; two grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Luehrs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlton "Cotton" and Clemency Meyer of Jackson, Harold and Peggy Meyer of Springville, Tenn.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lou Ficken of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and Monday after 9 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Radio Broadcast or Organ Fund, or the Lutheran Hour.
