THEBES, Ill. — Laura Virginia Reimann, 79, of Thebes died Sunday, March 3, 2024, at her home.

She was born Oct. 23, 1944, in St. Louis to Allen and Ella Summann Kern.

She and Gary Wayne Reimann were married June 18, 1967, at Grace Lutheran Church in Pagedale. They were married for 47 years.

Laura received a bachelor's degree in English from Southeast Missouri State University and taught for many years in area schools.

She was a member of the Homemakers Extension Club in the 1970s and 1980s and served as postmaster in Thebes for more than 25 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She loved to bake and was known for her cherry tarts. She loved the great outdoors, including gardening and bird watching. She especially loved spending time with the grandsons and the family.

Survivors include her daughter, Hope Laura Edwards of Thebes; two grandchildren, Gannon Cody Reimann Edwards and Ethan Bryne Wayne Edwards; two brothers, Norman and Raymond Kern; two sisters, Millie Freeman and Marie Beck; nieces, Lindsey Reimann and Hailey Keena; nephews, Blyn Reimann and Tyler Reimann; and many other nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and sister, Fern Thieman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Visitation will continue from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the church.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Internment will occur at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
