TAMMS, Ill. -- Laura Hazelwood, 88, of Tamms died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at her home.
She was born March 4, 1925, in Diswood, Ill., daughter of Vance A. and Ruth Harvell Honey. She married Herman David Hazelwood on May 1, 1946. He preceded her in death April 3, 2010.
Laura was a devoted wife, mother and owner/operator of Laura's Ceramics many years. She was a member of home extension and a 4-H leader. She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church for 74 years and considered her fellow members as her extended family.
Laura is survived by a son, Vance (Debby) Hazelwood of Tamms; a daughter, Jani Robinson (Kevin Mendenhall) of Tamms; four grandchildren, Laurinda (Scott) Marshall of Granite City, Ill., Regina (Mike) Vonhasseln and Tom (Nikki) Hazelwood of Jackson, and Sam Hazelwood (Courtney Bishop) of Bardwell, Ky.; 11 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Sarah, Elizabeth, Diandera, Catie, Bryenden, Brittney, Jaxon, Jaycee, Samantha and Dalton; two great-great-grandchildren, Sean and Alaina; and a special cousin, La Vonne Bridges.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; a son-in-law, Terry Robinson; and a grandson, James Dean Neff.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Kirk and the Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating. Interment will be in McCrite Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to McCrite Cemetery, Lions Club of Illinois, or Hospice of Southern Illinois, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
