Larry VanGennip

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Larry Paul VanGennip, 72, of Advance passed away March 9, 2016, at his home.

He was born March 23, 1943, at Cape Girardeau, the son of John Paul and Ruby Jane Fowler VanGennip. Larry and Anna Fish were united in marriage Feb. 23, 1963, at Advance, and she survives of the home.

Larry was a member of First Baptist Church of Advance, where he served as a deacon for nearly 40 years. He retired from the Puxico highway department as a shed boss and also was a retired farmer. He had also been associate commissioner of Bollinger County for 12 years. Larry was a lifetime member of the Bollinger County Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife, Anna VanGennip of the home; two sons, Roger (Betsy) VanGennip of Zalma, Missouri, and Alan (Amy) VanGennip of Advance; a son-in-law, Mick West of Zalma; a sister, Judy Sullinger of Advance; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Marsha West.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Advance.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Eric Shrum officiating.
