Larry C. Searcy, 57, of Springfield, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born June 28, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Earle and Carla Cunningham Searcy. Larry served his country with the U.S. Navy in the submarine service during the Vietnam War from February 1970 to February 1974. Larry C. Searcy, 57, of Springfield, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

He was born June 28, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Earle and Carla Cunningham Searcy.

Larry served his country with the U.S. Navy in the submarine service during the Vietnam War from February 1970 to February 1974. He then spent 10 years as a Springfield city police officer and also worked for the secretary of state 10 years. In his free time Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his children, Scott (Erika) Searcy of Jacksonville, Fla., Bridgit (Steve) Melton of Springfield; his father, Earle (Wanda) Searcy of Gordonville; a granddaughter, Bethany Searcy; a sister, Janalyn (Marcus) Miller of Petersburg, Ill.; his twin brother, David (Linda) Searcy of Waverly, Ill.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents and two nieces, Stephanie and Stacey Miller.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Vincent Rohn officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 229 N. Fifth Street, Springfield, Ill., 62701.
