MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Retired chief petty officer Larry "Chief" Richard Reuther of Marble Hill passed away Monday, June 22, 2020, at his home at the age of 80.
He was born April 26, 1940, in Astoria, Oregon, son of Paul and Edith Reuther. He and Sharron Davis were married in 1972.
Larry served in the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 20 years, stationed in Alaska, Michigan, California, Antarctica, Oregon and, finally, St. Louis. After retiring from the Coast Guard, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis, where he worked for the next 15 years until finally, and deservedly, retiring in 2003.
In addition to his wife, Sharron Reuther of Marble Hill, loving survivors include four children, Lisa Nance of Blessing, Texas, Larry Johnson of Port Lavaca, Texas, Jeanna Lee York of Cambridge, England, and Jennifer Reuther of Citrus Heights, California; sister, Paula Lindsey of Vancouver, Washington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Reuther.
The family would especially like to thank the staff and hospice team at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for making Larry as comfortable as possible in his final days.
Services will be held at later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
