Larry Dumey

Our dearest husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Marine Cpl. Larry R. Dumey, started his eternal journey Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 5 p.m. at Saint Francis Medical Center surrounded by family members and friends.

Larry was born to Elmer and Bertha Ann Vetter Dumey on Aug. 31, 1929, at old Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Larry was baptized at 2 weeks of age at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Cpl. Larry Dumey was very proud to be a Marine and loved his country and tried to preserve it in every way possible. He was a very brave and courageous man. He thought he had the battle won; however, it turned the other way very quickly.

Larry and Alice Brown were married Aug. 18, 1976, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. They had two sons, Darryl John and Craig Steven. The boys were truly his life.

Larry retired from Spartech after 44 years of service. He was a true servant for mankind.

He was preceded in death by a son, his father and his first wife, Dixie Glastetter Dumey.

Larry is survived by his wife, Alice; their son, Craig (Dorris); and siblings Alma Rae, Mike, Mary Kae and John; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, all of whom loved him and will miss his physical loving presence.

He was an honest, fair man and mentor to many.

In lieu of flowers, please reach out and help someone needing food, clothing or shelter as Larry was very concerned about the less fortunate, especially in this struggling economy.

He always felt so blessed and looked at his cup as half full, never half empty.

There will be a private memorial service.

Life and death are both stages of the journey of the spirit and both are entirely in God's hands. A big thank you to everyone for your unwavering love, prayers, kindness, compassion and yes, the joy which you brought to Larry this last year and a half of his struggle to live. Grief is a journey, not the final destination.

There is so much power in acceptance, and the path to victory requires us to submit and trust and transcend to the final stage of our journey which we must walk alone to Christ. Larry was so brave. All of you have brought us much love.
