TAMMS, Ill. -- Lark Jackson Betts Jr., 75, of Tamms died Friday, July 4, 2003, at his home. TAMMS, Ill. -- Lark Jackson Betts Jr., 75, of Tamms died Friday, July 4, 2003, at his home.

He was born July 8, 1927, in Elco, Ill., son of Lark Jackson and Mary Lillian Schillings Betts Sr. He married Betty Bridges.

He was a member of the Elco Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired from the LaCleede Steel Mill in Alton, Ill.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William Betts of Murphysboro, Ill.; three daughters, Catherine Sarginson of Murphysboro, Joyce "Kim" Butler of Tamms and Beverly Ashworth of Olive Branch, Ill.; four brothers, John Betts of Moro, Ill., Charles Betts of Sebring, Fla., Wesley Betts of Brighton, Ill., and Clifford Betts of Tamms; six sisters, Mary Overmeyer, Carmelita Betts and Vernetta Henderson, all of Bethalto, Ill., Bernelda Burney and Edna Gold, both of Wood River, Ill., and Alta Smith of Carbondale, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and six grand-grandchildren.

Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in rural Dongola, Ill., with full military honors by Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Ill.
