L. Louise Brown of Jackson, MO, died March 1, 1999 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape.
She was descendant of the late Louis Henry Blumenberg, a prominent landowner and an early settler in the Whitewater area. She was born Nov. 8, 1931 in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wilson Ernold (Cap) and Doraretta Marie Searcey Blumenberg. She married Lewis Walter Brown, son of Arthur Carl and Mary Elizabeth Dudley Brown on Nov. 24, 1951 in St. Louis. In 1954 they moved to Granite City, IL where he operated a business several years. he died on Sept. 25, 1978.
She was educated in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Patricia Steven's Career College, majoring in business. From 1974 until 1977, she attended the University of Missouri St. Louis. She was a former Associate Editor of RIVER STYX, a magazine of literature and art.
She served simultaneously as secretary of the Granite City Bubblemasters Club and the St. Louis Area Scuba Diving Association for many years. She was the 1962 Woman Spearfishing Champion at Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas. She also served on the board of directors of the Gateway Miniature Schnauzer Club and judged several speciality shows sponsored by the Greater St. Louis Wire Fox Terrier Club.
She worked in the Network Service Dept. of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in St. Louis over 31 years, retiring in 1983, because of ill health. She moved back to the Cape Girardeau area in 1991. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On April 15, 1998, she was sealed to her late husband for all time and eternity in their St. Louis Temple.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Ray Noland of Port Charlotte, Fl, and one grandson, Duane C. Noland of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Burl (Mary M.) Statler of Cape Girardeau and Mrs. Kenneth (Betty A.) Hudson of Jackson; one niece, Mrs. Kenneth (Dawn) Detring of Jackson; one nephew, James F. Dement of Tulsa, OK and five great nieces. One son, her parents and one nephew preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel, 1048 W. Cape Rock Dr., Thursday at 11 am.
Officiating will be Bishop John McMullin. Burial will be in the family plot in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4-8 pm at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. There will also be a visitation Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 10 am until service time.
