Kermit Burris

CAIRO, Ill. -- Kermit Burris, 51, of Cairo died Saturday, March 27, 2004.

He was born Nov. 14, 1952, in Cairo, son of Thomas F. and Ida Ray Burris Sr.

Burris was a graduate of Cairo High School. He was a truck driver more than 20 years with city of Cairo Street Department. He also was an on-call fireman from 1992 to 1994, worked at Burkart and Union Carbide, and various self-employment jobs.

Survivors include three daughters, Millicent and Madeline Hawkins of Carbondale, Ill., Stephanie Lynch of Wilson City, Mo.; a son, Fredrick Lynch of Wilson City; his mother of Cairo; four brothers, Thurston Pettigrew of Chicago, Thomas and Arnold Burris of Cairo, Wendell Burris of Panama City, Fla.; five sisters, Thomasine Johnson of Elgin, Ill., Gloria Patton, Sharon Box, Launa Lewis and Rose Burris, all of Cairo.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.

Friends may call at Heavenly Gates Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with Bishop Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, Ill.
