C. Kent Verhines, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at his home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Cape Girardeau to Kenneth A. and LaWanda L. Kimmich Verhines. He and Wanda Faye Verhines were married Sept. 4, 1980, at Cape Girardeau.
He served in the National Guard.
Kent was a Cape Girardeau Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University graduate.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Cape Elks Lodge 639.
He worked for Missouri Conservation Service and Saint Francis Medical Center as grounds manager. He loved to fish and play golf.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Verhines of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Valerie Richardson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lisa Baker of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Layna Kirchner of Jackson; son, Cliff (Danea) Verhines of Jefferson City, Missouri; brother, Brad (Janet) Verhines of Cape Girardeau; sister, Jane (Gary) Davie of Cape Girardeau; 11 grandchildren, Kale (Nicole) Ludwig, Kyle (Megan) Ludwig, Matt Baker, the Rev. Allen Kirchner, Cambree (Nick) Pfau, Rachel Richardson, Robert Richardson, Drew Richardson, Mary Richardson, Peter Richardson and Morgan Verhines; and six great-grandchildren.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allen Kirchner officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Cathedral.
