Kenneth Paul Popp, 76, of Oak Ridge died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 22, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Walter and Dorena Reimann Popp. He first married Vera Mae Lewis in 1951. She died in July 1971. He and Arlysse Lichtenegger Schoen were married May 6, 1972, at Pocahontas.
Mr. Popp had been an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in St. Louis, retiring in 1991. He had farmed since then.
He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where he was active with the Building and Grounds Committee, choir and Sunday school. He was a 50-year member of Union Local 1, and member of American Legion Post 133 in Perryville, Mo., active member of VIP Industries, ARC and VOC for the handicapped in Cape Girardeau and Fruitland.
Mr. Popp served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Vernon G. (Linda) Schoen of Oak Ridge, William "Bill" Schoen of Oak Ridge, Kevin P. (Karen) Popp of St. Louis, Bruce H. (Brenda) Schoen of Jackson, Terry L. (Chris) Schoen of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Stanley Popp of Cape Girardeau and Donald Popp of St. Charles, Mo.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Sammatha Schoen, Audrey Vail, Jared Schoen, Caleb Schoen, Renee Schoen, Charles Schoen, Martin Popp, Heidi Popp, Nathan Popp, Andrew Popp, Lydia Popp, Dustin Schoen, Annie Schoen, Kyle Schoen, T. Vernon Schoen; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Dixon, Lauren Dixon and Rebekah Vail.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until time of service.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Peter Rupprecht officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau, with military honors by American Legion Post 133.
