FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Keith Matthew King, 50, of Fuquay-Varina passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was born Nov. 17, 1972, in Cape Girardeau, son of David Ray King and the late Mary Lou Crader King.
Keith was a musician at heart and was a passionate drummer. After graduating high school in Missouri, he attended Missouri State University in Springfield. While attending college, he was a member of the marching band as well as the jazz band. He also was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity, which was a music service organization, serving as musicians in the community. He graduated from Wake Technical Community College with an associate degree in business.
During his life, he and several friends collaborated to forms bands such as the Chop Shop, K!CK and, in the Raleigh area, the 919. Keith also participated musically with the VoodooFlute jazz band. During his musician days, he traveled up and down the eastern seaboard playing in his bands, as well as in Las Vegas and Nashville, Tennessee, and touring on a cruise ship.
Keith loved history, especially Civil War history. He read books, watched documentaries and toured battle sites. He was a trivia master and, if you were playing trivia with him, you wanted him on your team. He was also quite the sports buff, especially loving the St. Louis Cardinals.
Keith was bright, funny and a very caring young man to all who knew him. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Crader King.
Keith is survived by his father, David Ray King of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Kevin King of Bristow, Virginia; and sisters, Kathy King of Fuquay-Varina and Kristina King of Willow Springs, North Carolina.
A celebration of life will be held to honor his favorite time of year from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at White Deer Park Nature Center in Garner, North Carolina.
