KATIE GREER

BERTRAND -- Funeral service for Katie A. Thornton Greer of Bertrand will be held at 3 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Burl Britt will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery near Charleston.

Greer, 87, died Sunday, July 6, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Mississippi County, daughter of Oliver and Kitty Epherson Ivie. She first married Virgil B. Thornton, who died May 24, 1955. She and E.D. Greer were married in 1964. He died in 1987.

Greer had lived in Mississippi County most of her life, and was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include a son, Bill Thornton of Murray, Ky.; a daughter, Bernece Poole of Sikeston; a stepson, Spencer Greer of Munster, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter.
