CHARLESTON -- Kathryn A. Scruggs, 78, of Charleston died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Charleston, daughter of Albert Henry and Aneliza Watts Humphreys. She first married Seborn Franklin Newcomb Oct. 25, 1942. He died Nov. 1, 1956. She and Raymond W. Jeffords were married July 13, 1962. He died Jan. 13, 1969. She later married James A. Scruggs Sr. Dec. 16, 1972.
Scruggs lived in Charleston most of her life, and was a graduate of Charleston High School. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and served as pianist and organist many years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linda Hodges and Judith Myres of Charleston; three stepsons, Dr. Jerry Scruggs of Memphis, Tenn., Dr. Charles Scruggs of Galveston, Texas, Jim Scruggs of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Carole Nafizder of Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Summers will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
