CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Kathleen R. Crawford, 78, a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau, died at her home Saturday, March 20, 1999.

Born Jan. 31, 1921, she was the daughter of Ray and Iva Nothdurft Roberts.

On March 22, 1943 she and Charles Crawford were married.

He survives, as well as two daughters, Candace Crawford and Carla Sample, both of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Don Roberts of Cape Girardeau; Lloyd Roberts of Burfordville and two grandsons, John and Brian Sample of Cape Girardeau.

An active member of Red Star Baptist Church, Mrs. Crawford worked as a part-time secretary there for 8 years.

Since 1973, Crawford taught ceramics at the church's activity center.

A past teacher and secretary in the Sunday school department, she was also a member of the choir and active in the WMU at the church.

During World War II, she worked at the International Shoe Company and at a defense plant in Tulsa, Okla. She was also employed with Superior Electric for 15 years.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Red Star Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Stephens, S.S. Borum and Cy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lorimer Cemetery.
