Kathleen "Kathy" Barnard, 74, of Jackson died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at her home. She was born April 10, 1943, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of Alexandria Tavares. She and John G. Barnard were married June 10, 1967, at New Bedford. She was a seamstress for Griffaw Furniture and also worked for Jack and Jill Daycare...

Kathleen "Kathy" Barnard, 74, of Jackson died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at her home.

She was born April 10, 1943, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of Alexandria Tavares. She and John G. Barnard were married June 10, 1967, at New Bedford.

She was a seamstress for Griffaw Furniture and also worked for Jack and Jill Daycare.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, St. Vincent's Women's Council and Daughters of Isabella, formerly Circle 768 in Sikeston, Missouri, but currently Circle 659 in De Soto, Missouri.

Survivors include her husband, John G. Barnard of Jackson; two sons, John D. (Kim) Barnard of Jackson and David J. (Kristen) Barnard of Shawneetown; three sisters, Flo Bergeron of Acushnet, Massachusetts, and Sandy (Rod) Rego and Helen (Dick) Denner of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Johnathan Barnard, Kayla Barnard, Charles White and Dominique (Cory) McMullen; and one great-grandchild, August Kennebrew.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alexandria Tavares; one sister, Kit DeCosta; and three brothers, Manuel, John and Mariano Tavares.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., with a rosary immediately following.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Old St. Vincent's Church.
