JACKSON, Mo. -- Katherine R. King, 78, of Jackson passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Revs. John Rice and Darrell Faire will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery...

JACKSON, Mo. -- Katherine R. King, 78, of Jackson passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Revs. John Rice and Darrell Faire will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Mrs. King was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of Robert T. and Lillian A. Shaner Headrick. She and Howard King were married Dec. 6, 1941. He died Aug. 15, 1993.

Loving survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Terry King of Jackson, Gene King and friend Teresa Brown of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Roger Tucker of Jackson; four grandchildren, Kelly, Shelly, Erin and Jeremy; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, Taylor, Micheala, and Mickey.

Mrs. King was a cook many years at the Owl Shanty in Fruitland, Mo. She also cooked at the former Rainbow Grill in Jackson, Cape County Jail, and various daycare centers. She served as a foster parent 22 years.

Mrs. King was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson more than 50 years, and also attended First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Mrs. King's family.
