KATHERINE HAMMER

Katherine E. Hammer, 73, of Festus died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus.

She was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Sikeston, daughter of Jesse E. and Francis C. Black Shrum. She and Virgil F. Hammer were married June 21, 1947, in Cape Girardeau.

Hammer taught at schools in Bollinger and Ste. Genevieve counties. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Steve Hammer of Festus; two daughters, Judy Turner of Carrollton, Texas, Jayne Misra of Ames, Iowa; four brothers, Bill, Jim and Sam Shrum, all of Cape Girardeau, Jake Shrum of Mountain Grove; four sisters, Arcelle Korzen of Coraopolis, Pa., Lola Urhahn of Oran, Jean Gilliland of Puxico, Joyce Baker of Jackson; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, two daughters, and a grandson.

Friends may call at Cady Funeral Home in Festus from 2-9 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Festus. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
