Karl Anthony Payton, 92, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau to be again joined by his beloved Janice, his wife of 42 years, who died in March 2016.

He was born April 17, 1925, in Chicago.

Janice and Karl were married May 12, 1974, in St. Louis. They renewed their vows later at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Karl was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe for 11 months with an armored division and later with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force at Frankfurt, Germany.

He was a salesman for Borden Ice Cream for more than 30 years. After retirement, he was a school bus driver.

Karl was a past Grand Knight of the De Soto Knights of Columbus Council and an officer of the first-, second- and the fourth-degree. He had also been active in Junior Achievement for four years as an adviser.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim (Chuck) Cousineau and Georgia Segraves; a grandson, Kelley (Leigh) Segraves, and a granddaughter, Katie Segraves; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Hannah.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Payton.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Advance, Missouri. Full military rites will be provided by the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Cathedral or the Missouri Veterans Home.
