TAMMS, Ill. -- Karen E. Brown, 72, of Tamms passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at her home. She was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Cairo, Illinois, daughter of the late Milford and Georgia Coleman Dunning. Karen was a faithful member of Tamms United Methodist Church, where she served as youth group sponsor, vacation Bible school superintendent, church custodian, and a member of United Methodist Women. TAMMS, Ill. -- Karen E. Brown, 72, of Tamms passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at her home.

She was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Cairo, Illinois, daughter of the late Milford and Georgia Coleman Dunning.

Karen was a faithful member of Tamms United Methodist Church, where she served as youth group sponsor, vacation Bible school superintendent, church custodian, and a member of United Methodist Women. Karen was a volunteer many years for the Tamms Fire Department's annual 4th of July celebration.

She was a dedicated professional, and devoted 19 years as funeral director assistant with Jones Funeral Homes in Tamms and Villa Ridge, Illinois. Karen loved her work and helping serve the families in Alexander and Pulaski counties.

Survivors include her husband, David Brown of Tamms; a daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Greg Bradford of Ingleside, Kentucky; a son and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Debbie Brown of Shawneetown; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mildred Dunning of Union City, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Shannon McDaniel, Gary Brown and Ashley Palmer; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Georgia Dunning; and a brother, Gary Dunning.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Pete Vinson and Brent Gordon officiating. Interment will be in McCrite Cemetery near Tamms.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Celtic Hospice in memory of Karen E. Brown.
