J.W. Lemonds, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Fountainbleau Lodge.
He was born July 22, 1929, in Dunklin County, Mo., to Orville G. and Mamie E. Gobble Lemonds. He and Thelma L. Lorenz were married June 19, 1954, in Cape Girardeau.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army, where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 63 and VFW Post No. 3838. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Men's Club. Mr. Lemonds had worked for the Marquette Cement Co. from 1953 until his retirement in 1991.
He loved bowling with his wife in a summer mixed league and also in the Friday Night Universal League from 1959 to 1991. He was inducted into the Cape Girardeau USBC Bowling Association Senoir Hall of Fame in 2010.
J.W. was a quiet, kind, generous, family man. He was always willing to put his considerable skills of fixing anything to use, helping anyone who asked. He loved solving puzzles of all types and could create his own wire puzzles.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Thelma Lemonds of Cape Girardeau; daughters Lynne (Gerald) Taylor of Cape Girardeau and Donna (Kevin) Etzold of Cape Girardeau; brothers Jack R. Lemonds of Dutchtown, W. Leroy (Martha) Lemonds of Cape Girardeau and Orville "Jr." Lemonds of Sherman, Texas; granddaughters Kaydee (Greg) Chandler of Cape Girardeau and Diana Etzold of St. Louis; and great-grandson Ethan Chandler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.
