J.W. Denning, 88, of Fenton, Mo., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Delmar Gardens in Chesterfield, Mo.

He was born Aug. 11, 1923, in East Prairie, Mo., to James Orbe and Hattie McClanahan Denning. He and Lennie Morgan were married Aug. 16, 1943, at Charleston, Mo.

Denning worked for Grand Woodworking in Chicago, and at various woodworking manufacturing companies more than 26 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife, Lennie Denning of Fenton; a daughter, Margie (Rickey) Ray of Fenton; three sons, Charles R. (Brenda) Denning of Hawthorne Woods, Ill., Roy E. (Glenda) Denning of Yuma, Tenn., and Wayne Denning of Amherst, Va.; a brother, Alvie Denning of Mattoon, Ill.; three sisters, Lena Mae Fagan of McLeansboro, Ill., Edna Zook of St. Louis and Sylvia Houston of Pacific, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by parents, a brother and a sister.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal Church, with the Revs. Darrell E. Faire Sr., Richard W. Denning and James D. Manning officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
