ORAN -- Funeral Mass for Paul "Junior" Halter of Oran will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. The Rev. Lewis Hejna will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7, and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30.
Halter, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, while driving a tractor on County Road 248.
He was born April 29, 1922, at Oran, son of Paul Peter and Clara Alvena Pobst Halter Sr. He and Dorothy Craft were married Oct. 4, 1947.
Halter owned and operated Halter Gas Co. many years, retiring 10 years ago. He was a member of Guardian Angel Church and its St. Joseph Sodality.
He was a former grand knight and life member of Knights of Columbus Council 4311, Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810, and Oran Chamber of Commerce. He sponsored and managed Halter softball team many years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Tim Halter of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Linda Shy of Oran; a brother, Michael Halter of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Dolores Slaughter of Chaffee; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
