BLOOMFIELD -- Funeral service for Julia E. Harty will be held at 1 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to service time.

Harty, 78, died Monday, April 29, 1996, at Florissant Nursing Center in Florissant.

She was born April 8, 1918, in Washington, D.C., daughter of William C. and Edith M. Garner Harty Sr.

Harty was executive director of the Rare Books Division of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., from 1944 until retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include three brothers, Stephen Harty of St. Ann, Robert Harty of Dexter, Richard Harty of Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
