MILLSTADT, Ill. -- Judith Ann Phillips Beussink was born Sept. 12, 1957, in Belleville, Illinois. After a three-year battle with cancer, she passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at her home in Millstadt.
Judy was dedicated and committed to the Department of Defense, working 34 years in positions with the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Transportation Command. Her last assignment, with the U.S. Army Strategic Deployment and Distribution Command, was especially demanding, but very fulfilling.
She wanted to thank her husband for scheduling and participating in many of the children's activities. When possible, she arranged weekend excursions for her family to hike and visit local museums and festivals. In 2016, she and her family were able to take a vacation to Newport Beach, California. She treasured the time spent with her husband and sons.
In the community, she served for a short time on the Scott Credit Union Board of Directors, was a member of the Civic Club and Sister Cities and supported many fundraisers for her sons' activities when they were younger.
Surviving are her devoted spouse, Edwin Beussink; her two loving sons, Brett and Joseph Beussink; her mother, Geraldine Morrison Phillips; two sisters, Beverly (Steve) Meister and Cynthia (Jeff) Hettenhausen; a brother, Lawrence (Kathy) Phillips; brothers-in-law, Donald (Sheila), Duane (Kari) and Glen (Paulette) Beussink; sisters-in-law, Donna Beussink and Elaine (David) Webb; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Phillips; father-in-law, Ernest Beussink; mother-in-law, Irene Beussink; brother-in-Law, Kenneth Beussink; and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Harmony West End Neighborhood Summer Camp or the East Belleville YMCA LiveSTRONG Program for cancer survivors.
