Joyce O. Meyer, 90, died Saturday, May 17, 1997, at the Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.
She was born May 23, 1906, in Campbell, daughter of Corley and Beulah McCutchen Overall. She married Louis F. Meyer on July 22, 1929, in Marshall, and he preceded her in death on April 18, 1978.
She was a 1924 graduate of Campbell High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. She and her husband taught together at several schools throughout the area. They moved to Flat River to teach until her husband's retirement in 1965.
They then moved to the family farm in Millersville. Mrs. Meyer taught in Jackson until her retirement in 1971 after 33 years of teaching. When her husband died in 1978 she moved to Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 92 at Campbell, Missouri Delta Kappa Gamma, Omega Chapter at Cape Girardeau, Cape County Unit of retired Teachers and the Chalk Bluff Daughters of the American Revolution at Campbell.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Owen of First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau officiating. That will be followed with a committal service at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell with the Rev. Jay Wilkens of First Baptist Church of Campbell officiating.
