ANNA, Ill. -- Joy E. Carlson, 86, of Anna died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was born in Burnley, Lancaster County, England, Jan. 8, 1912, daughter of Joe and Edith Gidley Lace. She and Arthur Carlson were married April 21, 1935, in Iron River, Mich. He died in May 1989.
Carlson served on the school board in Iron River and was active in PTA. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Edelman of Anna; two sons, Roy Carlson of Plainwell, Mich., Herbert Carlson of Seaford, Va.; a sister, Dorothy Oliver of Seal Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna was in charge of local arrangements. The body will be returned to Langenberg Funeral Home in Iron River.
A memorial service will be held later in Iron River.
