Joseph Elmer "Joe" Stovall, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born March 1, 1935, in Dutchtown, son of Joseph Oscar and Beulah May Greenlee Stovall. He and Eileen Baucum were married June 8, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Stovall grew up on a farm near Dutchtown. He served in the Air Force from March 20, 1953, to March 19, 1957, stationed at Carswell AFB as a mechanic on B-36 bombers. He then was a chief engineer with American Commercial Barge Lines. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Stovall of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Joseph Edward Stovall and wife Cindy, and William Anthony Stovall and wife Kim, all of Cape Girardeau, John David Stovall of Imperial, Mo.; two brothers, Jack Willard Stovall and wife Nancy of Cape Girardeau, Clyde Edwin Stovall of St. Louis; a sister, Leona Curry of St. Charles, Mo.; four grandchildren, Zach Stovall, Brittne Stovall, Kassie Stovall and Blake Stovall, all of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Stovall.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with full military rites provided by Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
