KELSO, Mo. -- Joseph Lawrence Schwartz, 81, of Kelso died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. KELSO, Mo. -- Joseph Lawrence Schwartz, 81, of Kelso died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Scott County, Mo., to Albert J. and Bertha Heuring Schwartz. He married Genevieve Marie Wibbenmeyer June 17, 1950, at Apple Creek, Mo.

Schwartz was a farmer. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Knights of Columbus Council 1111 of Cape Girardeau and Missouri and National Cattleman's Association.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Charles (Becky) Schwartz, Michael (Susan) Schwartz, Richard Schwartz, all of Chaffee, Joseph (Yvonne) Schwartz of Scott City; two sisters, Annie Essner of Chaffee, Mo., Leona Scherer of Scott City; seven grandchildren, Julie Scherer, Eric Schwartz, Suzanne Jackson, Stephen Schwartz, Stacy Schwartz, Gregory Schwartz, Nicholas Schwartz; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Jackson, Josie Schwartz and Domenic Scherer.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Parish prayers will be at 7, with Knights of Columbus service following.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Kelso.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
