PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Joseph R. O'Steen Jr., 80, of Perryville died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville. He was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Waycross, Ga., son of the late Joseph R. and Lizzie Mae Courson O'Steen. He and Patricia Rumary were married June 9, 1956...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Joseph R. O'Steen Jr., 80, of Perryville died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville.

He was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Waycross, Ga., son of the late Joseph R. and Lizzie Mae Courson O'Steen. He and Patricia Rumary were married June 9, 1956.

Mr. O'Steen was an electronic technician for the U.S. government. He was a member of Brazeau Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 4282, and a hospital auxiliary. He was a scoutmaster and enjoyed wood carving.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Peggy O'Steen and Amy (Daniel) Vinson of Perryville; a son, Casey (Mindy) O'Steen of Foristell, Mo.; a sister, Maureen Pruitt of Georgia; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hansel O'Steen.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home and Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service at Brazeau Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Owens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside service provided by VFW Post 4282 and Missouri Honors Team.

Memorials are preferred to Boy Scout Troop 754.
