CAIRO, Ill. -- Joseph N. Mattson, 88, of Cairo, died Sunday, May 5, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born April 16, 1903, at Unity, son of George A. and Mary Thompson Mattson.

Mattson was a retired carpenter with Valley Steel Co. here, and a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Dan Mattson of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Earl Mattson of Peoria, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia, on Feb. 22, 1990, and by a sister, Frances Modglin.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barkett Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William Gholson will officiate, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
