Joseph Riley Murphy, 82, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 21, 1913, at Morley, son of Francis M. and Grace Portis Murphy. He and Edna F. Irvin were married Oct. 5, 1941, at Morley.
Murphy was a mechanic with the Army National Guard in Arkansas more than 25 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge in Walnut Ridge, Ark. He moved to Cape Girardeau from Walnut Ridge three years ago.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Murphy of Knoxville, Tenn., Ronald Murphy of Grantville, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Johnson of Wynne, Ark.; a sister, Lora Jacobs of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. John Gregory and Vernon Guttenfelder officiating. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens at Paragould, Ark.
