FISHERS, Ind. — Joseph Edward Hirsch, 70, passed on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at his home in Fishers.

Joe was born July 5, 1945, in Cape Girardeau to Ralph and LaVerne Moore Hirsch.

He graduated from Central High School in Cape Girardeau and Ranken Technical College in St. Louis.

He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy and served proudly on the USS Hancock.

Joe received the National VICA Award in 1973, which led to his career in the automotive industry. During his career, he worked in several local dealerships in the Indianapolis area and spent 13 years as an Oldsmobile factory representative.

He was happily married to his beautiful bride, Susan Kay Stoll Hirsch for 40 years. He also is survived by his two children and five grandchildren, Jason (Lily) Hirsch and their children, Evelyn, William and Andrew of Rochester, New York, and Amanda Hirsch (Ryan) Nolting and their children, Gabriel and Madison of Fishers. He also is survived by a sister, Mary Hirsch Davis of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Donald (Faye) Hirsch of Wentzville, Missouri, and John (Jeanne) Hirsch and Charles (Jane) Hirsch of Cape Girardeau; and two brothers-in-law, John Folwell of Cape Girardeau and Mark (Grace) Stoll of Union Lake, Michigan.

He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Mary Grace Folwell and husband, Jeff Riedle, of Annapolis, Maryland; Nathan Folwell and wife, Sarah Schmidt, and their children, Alice and Frances of Brooklyn, New York; Datra Hirsch (Scott) DeNoyer and their children, Cosette and Caedmon of O’Fallon, Missouri; Eric (Sonia) Hirsch and their children, Lorenzo and Iris of Munich, Germany; Rachel Hirsch (Cory) Knapp of Cape Girardeau, and Ilene Davis and husband, Dr. Paul Botch, of East Lansing Michigan; Heather Stoll and husband, Wim van Dam, and their children, Branwen and Hollis van Dam of Solvang, California; Lona Sue Stoll and husband, Graham Dersley, and their children, Amara and Tallia of Silver Spring, Maryland; and Nathan Stoll and wife, Lauren Miller, and their son, Finley Miller-Stoll of San Francisco.

Joe loved his many aunts, uncles and cousins and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents, Harvey and Evelyn Stoll; a sister, Carol Hirsch Folwell; a brother-in-law, Dan Davis; and twin grandsons, Christopher Harvey and Michael Alan Hirsch.

Joe enjoyed life. He had the biggest heart and could make anyone laugh. He loved spending time with all his family and friends, as well as keeping in touch with his Navy buddies. He enjoyed working on cars and going to the Indy 500. Joseph was involved in Boy Scouts since 1986 and was very proud to see his son, Jason, receive his Eagle Scout Award.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church in Fishers, with a luncheon to follow.

Donations may be made in Joe’s name to the American Institute for Cancer Research, www.aicr.org.

A private military funeral honors ceremony will be April 9 at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. John Harth of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jackson will officiate the Rite of Committal interment service.

The family will be gathering to share memories of Joe’s life at 2 p.m. April 9 at the home of his sister, Mary Hirsch Davis, after interment. Friends are welcome.
