COBDEN, Ill. -- Joseph Highland Yates, 75, Cobden Route 1, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at Harry S Truman Veterans Center in Columbia.

He was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Cobden, son of Franklin Samuel and Myrtle May Highland Yates. He and Neda M. Wilder were married Aug. 28, 1943, in Lecompte, La.

Yates was retired from the auto parts industry, and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Cobden American Legion Post 259.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry and Timothy Yates of Cobden; three daughters, Susan Yates of Las Vegas, Nev., Maryann Yates of Cobden, Lori Albers of Alto Pass; three brothers, Frank Yates Jr. of Carbondale, Gene Yates of Elkville, Jesse Yates of Buncombe; two sisters, Ailene Casper of Carbondale, Martha Dale of Pacific, Mo., and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery at Lick Creek, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 259.
