JACKSON -- Joseph H. Volkerding, 84, of Jackson, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born Sept. 27, 1909, at Gordonville, son of Henry and Alice Abernathy Volkerding. JACKSON -- Joseph H. Volkerding, 84, of Jackson, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 27, 1909, at Gordonville, son of Henry and Alice Abernathy Volkerding. He and Irene Brase were married April 29, 1944. She died Aug. 1, 1957. He later married Ruth Rose Aug. 15, 1970, at Gordonville.

Volkerding farmed all his life in the Gordonville area, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church there.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy Wendel of Gordonville, Jane Windisch of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Darryl Rose of Bartlett, Tenn., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and stepdaughter.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. D. Lee Cullen Jr. will officiate, with burial in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
